This is an I/O position temporarily replacing a bargaining unit employee. This position will start as soon as possible and end March 2024. Working 35 hours per week at an hourly rate of $39.15/HR, they will be reporting to the Manager, Website Migration & Project Management.

The successful candidate will be responsible for building the college’s corporate website within a new Content Management System. Working alongside the Project Team they will be responsible for developing the website infrastructure.

You will be expected to review and analyze system specifications, optimize web applications and databases, anticipate needs, evaluate external web APIs for use on the website, develop and maintain technical documentation, and program, test and debug complex web-based applications.

The approach for this project should be from a user experience perspective keeping in mind both the web audience and the internal team that will be maintaining the website within the new Content Management System.

Specific Accountabilities:

Web services Development & Support
  • Develop templates, widgets, and modules in collaboration with the Project Team and keeping in mind the overall user experience.
  • Work from design mock-ups provided by the team web designer
  • Make suggestions for future developments, functionality, or policies.
  • Ensure that website integration into College systems meets functional requirements, system compliance, and interface specifications.
  • Review and analyze existing websites’ effectiveness and efficiency within Extron and develop and implement improvement strategies with the new Content Management System - Sitefinity.
  • Diagnose and troubleshoot problems with new functionality and integration with other College systems.
  • Review all AODA requirements and troubleshoot and resolve any issues related to accessibility on the corporate website.
  • Collaborate with system users in the testing of new website API’s or other software developments.
  • Meet with end users to define requirements and systems goals; identify and resolve website/content related issues.
  • Write, code, test, and debug software programs and applications including researching, designing, documenting, and modifying software specifications.
  • Independently design, develop, test, automate, debug and document complex web applications and scripts. Build web services both by creating new APIs and working with existing published APIs provided by internal and external systems.
  • Develop training documentation for future users of the corporate website – specifically for modules and widgets.
  • Liaise with other members of the I.T. staff to resolve problems with the College’s website infrastructure.
  • Liaise with application software suppliers for prompt resolution of any problems or emergencies.

Testing
  • The incumbent will thoroughly test all functionality on the website to ensure it meets completion criteria developed by the Project Team.

Team Collaboration
  • Attend daily and weekly meetings with the Project Team.
  • Present milestones reached within the project to various levels of management in monthly or quarterly team meetings.
  • Attend meetings with various departments to understand departmental goals and website needs.

Qualifications:

  • Three-year diploma/degree or equivalent in the information technology or related field
  • Minimum 3 years experience developing websites or web services.
  • Minimum 3 years experience working within content management systems.
  • Experience in a programming environment using a variety of programming languages (e.g. C# .Net Core, HTML5, CSS3, JavaScript, jQuery, Bootstrap 5, Git, SASS)
  • Previous experience with Sitefinity.Net Core Renderer is a must
  • Excellent interpersonal, problem solving and verbal/written communication skills.
  • Ability to work as part of a collaborative team
  • High degree of initiative; ability to think analytically.
  • Ability to test all functionality and troubleshoot issues
